William Burge, wichtiger englischer Jurist, begann im Jahre 1803 sein Rechtsstudium an der Universität Oxford und erhielt 1808 die Zulassung als Advokat bei dm Inner Temple. Danach wurde er Mitglied im Kolonial-Ministerium, wurde in Jamaika stationiert und wear dort 12 Jahre lang Generalstaatsanwalt. Danach kehrte er nach London zurück und vertrat als Konsul Jamaica. In dieser Zeit verfasste er sein berühmtes Werk, das auf der Grundlage der Rechtsprechung (case-law) die Situation der Internationalen Privatrechts in den britischen Kolonien darstellte. Das Werk übte höchste Autorität bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein aus. William Burge (1786-1849), an important British lawyer and Privy Councillor, matriculated at Oxford University in 1803 and was admitted to the Inner Temple being called to the bar in 1808. Then he joined the Colonial Service, being stationed to Jamaica, whre he served for 12 years as Attorney General. Then Burge was in practice in London ans served as Agent for Jamaica. He bacme an influential in jurisprudence through his famous book Commentaries on Colonial and Foreign Laws which was a book of authority in the early 20th century, too.
